The Gauntlet is a courseless, self navigated race on Tsalteshi Trails. There are checkpoints in the form of old paperbacks spread throughout the trails. The locations and amount of checkpoints will be revealed at the beginning of the race. The Gauntlet will test your endurance, your wits and your ability to navigate on the trails. Riders are encouraged to ride in groups, ride socially or ride alone. Whatever way you want to ride is fine, as long as it inspires joy.
Preregister online and save. $25 for TTA members and $35 for nonmembers. Day-of registration is also available, $35 for members and $45 for nonmembers. Day-of race check-in begins at 10:00 a.m., there is a mandatory racer's meeting at 10:45 a.m. and the race begins at 11:00 am sharp. Anyone not registered by and present for the race meeting will be severely delayed. A small bag or pouch is recommended. Racers will need to collect and carry at least 7 pieces of paper each lap, plus a pocket sized map.
The Rules
1. The Bear singletrack is downhill only, the all other singletrack is bi-directional. Practice good trail etiquette and yield to uphill riders.
2. Goat, Bear, Rabbit and the steep downhill on Raven are only to be ridden in the correct direction. As in, steep hills are only to be ridden as they would be skied.
3. Any singletrack entered must be ridden for the duration of that section. That means after reaching the checkpoint, riders must continue in the same direction until they exit that segment of singletrack. No turning around on the trail, creating your own trail, or using social trails.
4. To complete a lap and start a new one, riders must acquire their page from each checkpoint and return to the finish area. For their final lap riders may complete a partial lap, gathering pages from as many checkpoints as possible and returning to the finish area before 2 pm. Any riders not in queue to turn in pages by 1:59:59 pm will not have their last lap count.
5. Anyone who runs into another rider will be disqualified. It's an endurance race, not a sprint. Take the time to avoid one another.
